The project involves conducting a series of short interviews with scholars who study papal liturgy, from both historical and liturgical-theological perspectives, as well as with Catholic clergy who have had, or currently hold, the privilege of serving alongside the Bishop of Rome as masters of papal ceremonies.
Naturally, the initial premises may undergo modifications as the project progresses; after all, the primary objective is to popularize knowledge about papal liturgy, as well as to introduce a wider audience to the individuals and clergy who are directly involved in academic research on papal liturgy, and who even contribute to shaping its contemporary celebrational and ritual dimension.
In each instance, we will endeavor to supplement the interviews with a selected bibliography of the interviewee’s publications, focusing primarily, though not exclusively, on the topics discussed during the conversation. Our main areas of interest include papal liturgy, as well as the broader scope of Roman liturgy and the customs of the Papal Court (currently the Papal Household), including those pertaining to diplomacy.
Our goal is for Readers, through the interviews we publish, not only to become acquainted with the individuals featured and the topics discussed, but, above all, to have their passion for further personal exploration ignited, and perhaps even to find motivation for academic research into papal liturgy. We hope that we will succeed in achieving this, at least to some extent!
